The Adobe Photoshop home screen provides users with access to the Adobe Creative Cloud series of apps, offering more than just recently opened files. Users can browse and sort their files, displaying them in thumbnail or list form.
Furthermore, the home screen provides access to Adobe's online web tutorials, ranging from basic videos on getting started with layers and cutting out images to more advanced topics. Additionally, this is where users can create a new document and start their creative projects. Let's explore the features that the home screen offers.
When you open Photoshop, instead of directly entering the workspace, you will be greeted with the Adobe Home screen. The main portion of the screen displays your recent files, arranged in either ascending or descending order.
At the top left of the screen, you will find the menu items. The default option is "Home," but when you click on the "Learn" button, a page displaying available tutorials will appear. You can select from these tutorials based on your preferences and learning goals.
Another option on the home screen is "Lightroom Photos." By following the Learn options and clicking on it, you will see a page displaying Lightroom images stored online. You can choose to import these images, which will be downloaded and opened in Photoshop.
The PS Icon located at the top left corner serves as a link to the Photoshop workspace. Simply click on it to open the workspace. However, since you haven't started any work, it will open without an image. You can always click the home button to return to the home screen.
LAUNCHING INTO PHOTO EDITOR
To get started with Photoshop, the first step is to either create a new document or open an existing file. Here's how you can create a new document:
To create a new project or document, click on "Create New" for a fresh start. Scroll to the right, up, and down to select the desired template from the available options.
Once you've selected a template, adjust the properties on the right side according to your preferences. These properties include the project name, width, height, orientation, resolution, and color mode. After making the necessary adjustments, click on "Create."
For the color mode, it is recommended to choose RGB color, which stands for Red, Green, and Blue. These colors are best suited for Photoshop. As for the photo dimensions, a recommended size would be 880 pixels wide and 450 pixels tall, with a resolution of 72 pixels/inch.
After filling in the document properties, click on "Create New" to open a new document and begin working on it.
The new project will open on the workspace, which is initially blank and white. This blank area is called the Canvas and is composed of pixels that can be modified.
You can use your mouse wheel to increase or reduce the size of the project by dragging the mouse in and out.
